Christina Aguilera and Heidi Klum: two knockout blondes, and two killer pairs of platform shoes. Christina’s got a retro “pin-up girl meets rocker chic” look going in her blood red, multi-strap mary janes, while Heidi Klum’s look is purely high fashion in her shimmery, sexy sandals.
So who’ll win this edition of Shoe Wars? It’s up to you to decide.

The bloggers at Fashion Indie have always been trendspotters – but now they’re watching for trends that need to not happen. Scrunchies? Dark lipliner? Frankly, we couldn’t agree more. Here are the top 10 trends they hope never become trends:
1. Thong leotards over biker shorts- Wasn’t a good look when Kelly Kapowski from Saved By The Bell did it, and isn’t even a good look for 80s parties.

2. Shutter shades- We know once Kanye was spotted in these everyone went crazy over them, but shutter shades were never okay, and will never, ever be okay.

3. Visors- I have a feeling that sooner or later, hipsters are going to think that grandma visors are ‘ironic.’ We’ll just put it out there now to save everyone the $5: they aren’t ironic, they’re ugly.

4. Mesh- so not okay.

5. Crocheted tank tops – Just plain ugly.
6. Tying up dress shirts (a la ‘Hit Me Baby One More Time’)- Keep your button up shirts buttoned up and tucked.

7. One size fits all shirts- Who thinks this is a good idea?

8. Guys in flared jeans/pants- This is not the 70s.
9. Dark lip liner- Beyond trashy.
10. Scrunchies- We really, really, REALLY hope this isn’t happening.

Sephora staffer Caryn begins her consultation.
Roy Galifi from DDF presented Sephora staffers in the New York office a skinfully wonderful treat. He gave us each a personal evaluation with the brand’s exclusive Skin Imaging System that uses light transport to analyze complexion with noninvasive techniques. He started by taking pictures of both the face and inner forearm in order to compare the complexion with skin from an area that is well protected and relatively pure. With the two images, he gave a three-part analysis looking at melanin, hemoglobin, and collagen to assess sun damage, broken capillaries and elasticity. He then recommended a customized protocol with DDF products that addressed each person’s unique needs.
My results? Sun damage was fairly little (thanks to my diligent daily use of sunscreen and my collection of cute sun hats for the beach), but my collagen showed that I’m a prime candidate for DDF Wrinkle Resist Plus Pore Minimizer (a little reminder of another thirty-something birthday next month!).
Wish you could get an evaluation too? DDF is one step ahead of you. They’ll be bringing consultants to Sephora stores across the country. Look for one near you! (Call store to confirm and for event hours.)

My 7-year-old daughter has been snatching up brights (she loves yellow) and boho tops for her back-to-school shopping. She’s got her own style (I’m just the lady with the credit card who pays the bill) but I never leave these pre-season shopping trips without buying something new (and age appropriate, as in wearable colors like the pretty orange from Matthew Williamson, left).
